James III is an experimental photographer, honing skills acquired over three years studying darkroom photography. Under independent study with Professor Jane Camp, he spent two years creating a muse-inspired 115-page photo-book using 35mm techniques. These techniques have led James to explore subcultures through photography, which he uses as inspiration and instruction in exploration of his Queer identity within themes of sexuality and self-expression. James’ roots lie in 20th-century inspired fashion photography moved by artist such as Richard Avedon and Annie Leibovitz. However, being raised in the “Age of the Internet” has influenced James to explore contemporary bizarre and surreal imagery through classical executions, inspired by the Internet’s visual cultures and aesthetics.
As a result, James seamlessly melds his identity as a gay man, a millennial, and a classical photographer to engage audience in the world with his unique perspective.
